Red dye #40 is bad for humans, but what about a tiny bird the size of our thumb? Next time you fill your Hummingbird feeder, consider an all-natural alternative such as Nature's Flavors, an antixoidant-rich energy drink more akin to what they usually eat. Also consider planting window boxes filled with bright red flowering plants, the Hummingbirds will love you.

Next time you walk by a birds' nest, show them you're respectful and they just may remember. Mockingirds have been found to quickly learn which humans pose a thread based on the human's previous actions. Check out the great informative article on Not Exactly Rocket Science.

How great are Bears? Imagine how something so big and powerful can be so kind and gentle...imagine them being alone in the forests, like a happy hermit who's quiet life desires nothing more than to live in as much peace as possible...Bears are awesome.

As a Mainer, I know how important the fishing industry is to the livlihood of so many people in New England. There is a constant struggle between the rights of the Fishermen/women and the proper stewardship toward the environment. Such an incredibly touchy subject for so many, is displayed prominently in local bars and bumper stickers reading "Save Fishermen, F--- the Whales", among others. However, when I see Clammers throwing undersized Clams on the surface of the mud flat, where they dry up and die, it makes one wonder if they want to come back for next years brood of Clams. Weather it be lack of education or lack of compassion...it needs to change. We need restrictions on what we can fish, how much, and when; otherwise, what has happened in so many other places around the world will happen here, dead zones and unstable, unhealthy environments. Please write to Maine's Governer Balacci to tell him Maine needs strict regulations and environmental education for those working on the ocean.
